For the 2022 model year, ZIPP has given the 454 NSW™ a hookless rim that is optimised for tubeless tyres in 25 mm width and, in this configuration, enables an almost seamless transition between the rim flanks and the tyre, further minimising wind resistance. At the same time, the rim has become lighter, so that the weight of the wheel is even lower compared to its predecessor. With the tubeless construction you profit from lower rolling resistance, more comfort and increased grip.

The 454 NSW™ rear wheel's 58 mm-high carbon rim is hand-made in Indianapolis (USA) and features a wave-like SawTooth™ profile that delivers excellent aerodynamic values at different angles of attack. Its rim flanks are equipped with HexFinTM ABLC dimples and also have a minimised lateral contact area, which can noticeably improve the wheel's handling in crosswind conditions.

Spinning in the centre of the 454 NSW™ carbon rear wheel is the robust and reliable Cognition V2 hub. Its special design distributes the load on the wheels across the hub flanges, reducing the strain on the bearings. There’s no need to adjust the pre-tuned cartridge bearings and, thanks to the 17 mm diameter of the axle, the hub is also extremely stable. The special flange geometry has an optimised bolt circle for J-bend spokes which endows the wheel with max torsional and lateral stiffness. Improved compared to its predecessor, the Axial Clutch™ technology decouples the ratchet system of the freewheel as soon as the hub is coasting, thus minimising wear and friction losses. In addition, the engagement angle of the ratchet freewheel has been reduced so that you can quickly pick up speed again after pedalling pauses.

• HyperfoilTM technology: Refers to the individual waves of the SawtoothTM rim profile, which are equipped with HexFinTM ABLC dimples, making the rim aerodynamically optimised and providing distinct crosswind stability.
• Axial ClutchTM technology: Special freewheel technology that reduces rotational resistance during pedalling breaks.
• ImPress™ technology: The ZIPP graphics aren’t glued on, but printed directly onto the wheel – that way the hexagonal dimples in the rim flanges are unaffected and don’t lose their ability to reduce vortex shedding.
