ALPINA APAX MIPS MTB-Helmet

The ALPINA APAX MIPS MTB helmet from ALPINA is a real all-rounder in the off-road sector and is one of the lightest helmets in its category. The HI-EPS in combination with MIPS and RUN SYSTEM ERGO FLEX ensures a high level of comfort and safety. In the event of a fall with an angled collision, MIPS helps to reduce the rotational forces acting on the head.
Thanks to INMOLD manufacturing, the helmet is very light. During this process, the upper shell is thermally bonded to the HI-EPS. This results in a solid connection that ensures a very stable construction. The lower edge of the helmet is protected by another polycarbonate shell that fits seamlessly to the upper shell.
For optimum safety on rough trails, the rear and the temple area are pulled further down. This way, your head is protected even better. The helmet's smooth-running adjustment system impresses with its filigree design and fixes it evenly all round the head. Last but not least, large ventilation openings allow ideal ventilation, fly screens keep insects away from the head and the height-adjustable shield provides additional protection in the field of vision.

This clever fitting system combines the proven MIPS impact protection with an individual, smooth and height-adjustable fit for your head.

WHAT IS MIPS?
MIPS (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System) is a slip-plane system within the helmet. It is designed to rotate inside the helmet and thus slow down or reduce the impact energy acting on the brain, which helps reduce head injuries caused by rotational impacts.

WHY IS MIPS IMPORTANT?
When a head rotates quickly and comes to a sudden stop, the rotational acceleration may cause the brain tissue to experience high levels of strain. This stretching of the tissue caused by these motions may result in various types of brain injury. MIPS is designed with the intent to address rotational acceleration from impact.

HOW DOES MIPS WORK?
MIPS uses a slip-plane system that moves inside the helmet, mimicking the brain’s own protection system. This layer is designed to rotate inside the helmet with the intent to potentially slow down or reduce the amount of energy transferred to or from the head. Science tells us that if we can reduce the strains associated with rotational acceleration, we might reduce the risk and severity of brain injury.

INMOULD:
The liner is fused with the outer shell under high pressure and strong heat for a lasting connection. This makes the helmet very robust and lightweight.

CERAMIC SHELL:
A break- and scratch-resistant polycarbonate outer shell that is pressed onto an HI-EPS body under high pressure and with strong heat. UV-resistant and antistatic.

HI-EPS:
The inner shell is made from High Expanded Polystyrene with numerous microscopic air chambers that absorb impact energy in case of a collision.

EDGE PROTECT:
Sharp edges are eliminated during the manufacturing process in order to protect your hands when using the helmet as well as to effectively protect your neck and shoulders in case of an impact.

AIRFLOW VENTING:
The ventilation of the helmet is one factor that strongly influences wearing comfort. The well thought out arrangement of the ventilation openings is crucial for optimum ventilation of the interior. The air is channelled into the interior, where it is guided along the head and can flow out again at the rear end. The head is therefore always pleasantly air-conditioned.

FLY NET:
A mesh fabric in the front vents serves as an anti-insect mesh. It prevents insects from entering the helmet, thus protecting from insect stings without compromising on air flow.

Y-CLIP:
A helmet can only provide best protection if it remains in the optimal position in case of a crash. The adjustment and fixation of the two straps under the ear are very important for this. The Y-clip system ensures easy and precise adjustment.

ERGOMATIC:
The strap closure with a red press button and a multi-step ratchet mechanism can be operated with one hand only. It won't become loose in case of a fall.
