Garmin Forerunner® 970 Multisport Watch, AMOLED

Maximise your performance with the GARMIN Forerunner® 970 – the premium GPS running and triathlon smartwatch for performance-oriented athletes.

With its brilliant AMOLED touch display, sapphire glass and titanium bezel, it combines lightness and elegance. Thanks to innovative features such as “step speed loss on ground contact” (in combination with the GARMIN HRM 600 heart rate chest strap, prod. code: 160933) you receive live data about how much you slow down when your foot hits the ground.

In conjunction with the proven GARMIN running dynamics, your speed and heart rate, the Forerunner® 970 multisport watch evaluates your running economy. This will help you understand how energy-efficient your running style really is. Running Tolerance shows you the biomechanical impact of running on your body and helps you to adapt your training to avoid taking on too much.

With multi-frequency reception and integrated maps with improved navigation, you'll always stay on course – no matter where you're training.
Pair the Forerunner® 970 with your smartphone to make and take phone calls directly from your wrist using the integrated microphone and speaker. Don’t worry if your run takes longer: With the built-in LED flashlight, you are well equipped even in the dark. With a battery life of up to 15 days in smartwatch mode, your GARMIN Forerunner® 970 easily keeps up with you – in every training session or competition.

Innovative features

• RUNNING ECONOMY: Running Economy measures your running efficiency. In addition to speed, heart rate and the proven Running Dynamics, the parameters for the calculation also include the speed loss metric (optional HRM 600 required). The lower the value, the more energy-saving is your running.
• RUNNING TOLERANCE: Running Tolerance assesses the biomechanical load that is placed on your body when running. Especially when running downhill, the musculoskeletal system, i.e. bones, joints, tendons and ligaments, is put under a lot of strain. Running Tolerance evaluates this load and helps you to avoid taking on too much.
• FULL-COLOUR MAPPING: Whether on city streets or forest trails – the multisport watch provides full-colour, built-in mapping – now even more dynamic, intuitive and simpler to follow.
• GARMIN COACH ADAPTIVE TRAINING PLANS: Prepare for your next competition, train for a milestone or simply improve your fitness with adaptive or pre-built GARMIN Coach running, cycling, strength or triathlon training plans. For even more personalised workouts, selected plans adapt based on performance and health data.
• TRAINING READINESS Training readiness combines your acute training load with other health data such as recovery, sleep or stress and individually classifies your readiness for the next training session.
• TELEPHONY AND VOICE ASSISTANCE: Enjoy the comfort of making and receiving calls from your wrist – or use your smartphone's voice assistant to reply to text messages and more (when paired with your compatible iPhone® or Android™ smartphone). Specific watch functions can even be activated offline by voice command.

Planning:

• MORNING REPORT: The morning report shows you a summary of your sleep and HRV status directly after waking up and provides you with your daily training recommendation and weather information*. You can even customise the report to fit your needs.
• EVENING REPORT: The evening report shows you a summary of your day before you go to bed with a reminder of sleep need, tomorrow’s workout and weather. You can even customise the report to fit your needs.
• TURN-BY-TURN DIRECTIONS: Create or find existing courses in the GARMIN Connect™ app or synchronise courses from third-party platforms and get turn-by-turn directions.
• DYNAMIC ROUND-TRIP ROUTING: Enter how far you want to go and get suggested routes that will bring you back in time. If you break off course, your watch will map a new one that hits the same mileage.
• TRAINING CONDITION: With indicators like HRV status (heart rate variability), training log and power, you get insights into your overall effort. That way you know whether you are building up your form during training, are in top form or are tired.
• DAILY SUGGESTED WORKOUTS: Receive daily training recommendations for running and cycling, which adapt depending on your training load and recovery. Add upcoming running or cycling events to your GARMIN Connect™ calendar and receive even more targeted training recommendations based on the requirements of the competition.
• RECOVERY TIME: After each workout, the recovery time tells you when you are ready for your next activity. It is based on the training intensity and factors such as stress, daily activities and sleep.
• BODY BATTERY™*: Measure your body’s energy levels so that you know the best times for you to be active or to recover.
• SLEEP COACH: Get a sleep score and personalised coaching for how much sleep you need and how you can improve. Keep track of different sleep stages and naps – and see key metrics such as HRV status to better understand your health.
• NAP DETECTION Automatically track or log your naps. See how they benefit your body and check the recommended time and duration they should be.
• HRV STATUS: Record your heart rate variability during sleep and get exciting insights into health, recovery and fitness thanks to a daily and 7-day average.
• GARMIN ECG APP: The ECG app**** uses sensors to record the electrical signals that control how your heart beats. It analyses that recording to detect signs of an irregular heart rhythm called atrial fibrillation.
• SKIN TEMPERATURE: When wearing your watch to sleep, see how your average skin temperature* changes. These changes can be related to your recent activity, sleep environment, potential illness and more.
• WOMEN'S HEALTH TRACKING: Track and store information about your menstrual cycle or pregnancy for training and nutrition information.
• RUNTIME ESTIMATE: Get information about your potential pace for a 5K, 10K, half marathon or marathon.
• PROJECTED RACE TIME: This race-time prediction is what your race time and pace could be if you keep training well all the way through to the race date entered.

Preparation:

• WRIST-BASED RUNNING DYNAMICS: Your smartwatch measures crucial running metrics such as cadence, stride length, ground contact time and more.
• STEP SPEED LOSS: The step speed loss metric measures how much you slow down when your foot hits the ground. Good runners lose little speed and can quickly convert the movement back into a forward motion (optional HRM 600 required).
• WRIST-BASED HEART RATE MEASUREMENT: Constant measurement of your heart rate helps you gauge how hard you work during activities.
• MULTISPORT WORKOUTS: Create customised brick sessions to optimally prepare for your next triathlon or multisport event. Combine two or more sport types and let your smartwatch guide you through your workout.
• HILL SCORE: This feature measures your capability for running uphill and evaluates your progress over time based on your VO2max and training history. It measures your running strength on steep ascents and endurance on long ascents. You get a value based on your long-term performance.
• ENDURANCE SCORE: This function measures your ability to sustain prolonged efforts. It combines training data from all your athletic pursuits to help you understand how training impacts your overall endurance. This dynamic measurement uses your VO2max, short-term/long-term training loads and other factors to gauge your fitness progress beyond just VO2max.
• ACUTE LOAD: Compare your recent training load with the optimal range to improve your fitness.
• LOAD RATIO: Track the short-term and medium-term load ratio. This keeps your training load within a range that promotes your health and avoids setbacks.
• PERFORMANCE CONDITION: Get pace and heart rate analysis while running. This gives you a real-time assessment of your current performance.
• VO2 MAX: Take a look at your current fitness level and track long-term changes to set goals, evaluate your progress and much more.
• STRESS LEVEL MEASUREMENT: Find out what kind of day you are having: a calm day, a balanced day or a busy day.
• TRAINING EFFECT: With training effect, you can see how your workouts impact your aerobic and anaerobic fitness. It also helps you to understand the primary benefit from training runs and workouts.
• HEALTH SNAPSHOT™: Complete a 2-minute session to record important health statistics, then create a report to share with your doctor.
• PULSE OX SENSOR**: Check your blood oxygen level to assess acclimatisation to altitude or to detect breathing difficulties during sleep.
• WORKOUTS: Download free HIIT, strength training, cardio, yoga, Pilates and mobility workouts and add variety to your training.

Performance:

• TRIATHLON- AND MULTISPORT APPS: Automatically record splits with integrated profiles for triathlons, duathlons, brick sessions and SwimRuns or create your own.
• WRIST-BASED RUNNING POWER: Look at how much power you're putting on the trail or the road. This way you can regulate your effort and train even more optimally.
• SATIQ™ TECHNOLOGY AND MULTI-FREQUENCY RECEPTION: Get highly accurate track recording and optimised battery life.
• PACEPRO: Plan your race day strategy with GPS-based pace information for a specific course or distance.
• TRACK RUNNING: Record accurate lap distances and see your distances in metres – even on a track you have never run before. This database contains information on more than 10,000 tracks (400 metres) from all over the world.
• CLIMBPRO: Get real-time information on current and next climbs.
• STAMINA REMAINING ENERGY: This endurance function tracks your performance and shows you the energy you have available during your physical activity. This way you can avoid premature exhaustion.
• UP AHEAD: See relevant stops along a pre-installed route at a glance, including refreshment stations.
• AUTO LAP® BY TIMING GATES: When following a course, your watch will recognise when you cross mile or kilometre course points. As opposed to the GPS-based Auto Lap®, it triggers auto laps based on the course information.
• SUGGESTED FINISH LINE: If you have a course loaded for your race, your watch recognises the previously set finish line and stops your activity automatically.
• BUILT-IN SPORTS APPS: Add some variety to your training with activity profiles for cycling, triathlon, pool and open water swimming, track training and more. During competitions and training, you can switch between sports at the touch of a button.
